The epic Mahabharata mention the tale of a legendary vessel called the Akshaya Patra, gifted by Lord Krishna to the Pandavas.

“Draupadi prayed to Krishna; who was depressed to see the condition of his sister Draupadi and the Pandavas; during their exile. So he granted her with the Akshaya Patra, a vessel that would give immense food every day till Draupadi finished eating”. The inexhaustible vessel which would ensure that not just Pandavas, but even those visiting the Pandavas would never have to go hungry. The vessels then saves the Pandavas from the wrath of Sage Durvasa who appear at their doorstep for a meal.

It is our humble effort to present this epic story of the Akshaya Patra in a contemporary setting. The concave dome shape of the light itself represents the Akshaya Patra vessel and the story is created in the interior surface of the dome.

The Akshaya Patra Art Light is a brass concave dome; adorned with hand beaten hammer texture on the exterior and hand painted Kerala Mural painting in the inside surface of the dome, then illuminated from a light source.

The epic story is represented in the vibrant palette of the Kerala mural style. The illumination source is placed in a smaller convex brass dome adorned with chasing patterns and motifs relevant to the story.
